5 Mar 2019 - Arrived at Tucson/Lazydays KOA Resort

5 Mar 2019

Not many left to visit!  We will catch Oklahoma on the way home in April.  The east coast will be done later this summer.
We departed White Sands Missile Range NM this morning at 0832 hrs and after navigating through Las Cruces  we connected up with I-10 and headed westbound towards Tucson AZ.  The trip was fairly uneventful.  West of Las Cruces we passed the 'recycled roadrunner'.  Measuring about 20 ft tall and 40 ft long, it is made from recycles materials.
There were a few mountains in the distance, but for the most part we climbed maybe 1000 ft before descending into Tucson at the end.  The landscape started out fairly flat and barren.
Before we got to Lordsburg, we passed the Continental Divide.  We also crossed the Continental Divide in 2017 in both Colorado and Montana.
Traffic was busier than expected.  There was a lot of truck traffic.  Doreen captured this 'convoy' heading eastbound!
There were many warning signs about dust storms and how to handle them.

Some beautiful rock formations along the way.

We crossed over the New Mexico/Arizona State Line.

Snow-covered mountains in the distance.

We saw several 'dust devils'.

We stopped for lunch at a rest area and photographed this passing train against the background of yellow wild flowers
We arrived at the Tucson/Lazydays KOA Campground at 1500 hrs after traveling 300 miles exactly.  We set-up quickly and Liberty was eager to stroll around the park since she was cooped up in her kennel for the long ride.

This is a KOA 'Resort' rather than a 'Journey' or a 'Holiday'.  It is massive with hundreds campsites in many different categories.  They have 'buddy' campsite that allow two RV's to face each other with a common area in the middle.

This is a deluxe end site with a barbecue area and a fireplace.

They also have 'cabins' for those who want to camp but don't own RV's.
Our site is a pull-through 50 amp, nothing fancy but it is very nice.  They have fruit trees that divide the sites.  Our tree is full of ripe lemons and we are enjoying them in our water!
Our fifth wheel with a lemon tree in the foreground!

Lots of ripe lemons just waiting to be picked!

Plenty of space in between sites

Nice paved patio with wrought iron chairs and table
Right across the street is the pool area with a hot tub, laundry facility, showers and bathrooms, and a barbecue restaurant and bar!  Very nice!

There are huge solar arrays above certain areas of the campground.  In the summer the sites underneath the panels are a premium price because they are shaded.  Right now, even though we are not directly under the solar panels, we still benefit from shade in the afternoon.

We are only here two days after today, so our touring is going to be a little limited.  Friday we head north to Apache Junction/Mesa KOA and we will be there for nine nights.
