This morning we hung around the RV and I finished up the Blog from last night. Trying to give my cold some slack too. After lunch we decided to check out the San Diego Metro Transit System (MTS). Tomorrow we planned to take the the Green Line to tour Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, so we figured it would be a good idea to learn the ropes today. If we miss the tour time our tickets are void, so we can't be late! We are also going to take the Green Line to the Padres baseball game home opener on the 28th.

Today we drove to the San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU) Stadium where the closest MTS station is located. The SDCCU stadium has a long history but it used to be the San Diego Chargers NFL team stadium, so the parking lot is huge, perfect for parking the big ol' RAM pickup. I called the MTS and between the iPhone App and their web site we figured out the schedule, the cost and the stops. This time we will use the MTS to visit San Diego Old Town.

The SDCCU MTS station was only six minutes drive from our RV Park. Since it is the weekend hardly anyone was parked here or using the MTS. We parked and made our way up to the elevated station level and purchased our tickets. I can buy day passes on the iPhone for $5.00 each or Senior passes (one-way) at the station kiosk for $1.25 each, so we decided to try the kiosk this time.
With tickets in hand and the Green Line arriving, we hopped aboard and were quickly on our way. The Green Line only stops for right at 30 seconds and then it is on it's way again, so there is no dilly-dallying.
Between the Stadium station and Old Town station there are six stops, but the whole trip only took us about 20 minutes.
We arrived at Old Town station and walked a few block to the Old Town San Diego area. This is the oldest settled area in San Diego and the first European settlement in present-day California. The area contains hotels, restaurants and specialty shops of all kinds. There are many events held in Old Town including art festivals and other celebrations. We strolled through many different shops and Doreen bought a few items.

We finished our afternoon at Old Town San Diego with a hand-packed ice cream cone and then headed to the station for the Green Line ride back to the RV Park.
Pork chops on the grill for dinner and finished the night watching the Chicago Cubs get smacked by the Colorado Rockies.
Tomorrow morning we will take the Green Line to Gaslamp Quarter station and tour Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team!
