16 Mar 2019 - Lunch with Gardners at Mickey D's, Preparing to Leave Apache Junction

16 Mar 2019
Ed and Joyce Gardner
Today we had lunch with Ed and Joyce Gardner, friends from Norwalk IA.  We are very glad it worked out that we could get together with them.

They rent a park model down here in Mesa every year and will return back to Norwalk in April.   We met them at Mickey D's Restaurant which is known for it's 'killer' breakfasts!  I not often pop for chicken fried steak, but their's looked delicious and trust me, it was!!  It was served with two eggs, American fries and a biscuit.  Well, that's enough calories for a couple days right there!
On the way back to the KOA I snapped another picture of Superstition Mountain.  For about three days in March and September a shadow is cast on the mountain that resembles a cougar.  We never saw it, but it might be just a bit early yet.

We stopped for fuel and a few supplies including another case of water before we head across the desert on the way to El Centro CA tomorrow.  Then back to the RV to watch the Cyclones beat the Kansas Jayhawks in the Big 12 basketball tournament.

It has been a nice stay at Apache Junction.  We thoroughly enjoyed the baseball games and all the people we have seen.   The weather has been really good, much better than the first part of our trip.  If we had a few more days there are other things we would like to see, but it will have to be another time.

Westward ho tomorrow.  It's going to be a longer than usual day for us.  The trip will be upwards of  275 miles, so with rest and fuel stops it will be a 6 hour travel day.

Next report, El Centro Naval Air Facility, CA
