19 Mar 2019 - Blue Angels Farewell

19 Mar 2019
NAF El Centro CA is the winter home of the Blue Angels, the Navy's aerial demonstration team.  The summer home is at NAS Pensacola FL.  Last weekend they performed here during an air show but we did not arrive in time to see it.  Today they departed El Centro for Pensacola, and apparently they do kind of a final 'thank you' for the base.  It was quite the show.

Doreen took quite a few videos but they don't load into the blog very well. After that we went to the Commissary and NEX (Naval Exchange).  It was right over near the Blue Angels training area.

I apparently picked up a cold, probably at the night baseball game we attended in Mesa.  The temps dipped more than we had anticipated and we were not dressed appropriately.  We got really chilled.  So the last few days I have felt lousy.  In addition to the cold, my back has been giving me fits.  So I am kind of a mess right now, at least more than usual....  I threw in the towel this afternoon and headed into an urgent care, and they diagnosed exactly what I thought:  Bronchitis.  They did a strep test which came back negative, so they prescribed a z-pack, two shots in the buttocks, and another pill from Walgreen's.  Lets hope it kicks in quickly.
We dropped off the prescription and has 45 minutes to kill so we went to the Burgers and Beer restaurant for dinner.  Camaronillas for me and Doreen had a burger.  After that we returned to the RV and went through the normal night before pack up procedures:  Pack tire covers, dump & flush sewer tanks, stow the barbecue grill, etc.

I did not know what to expect here in the middle of nowhere at El Centro, but I can tell you I am impressed.  The campground was great, the people were friendly, the town is nice with all the amenities you need, and plenty to see around here.  I am glad we planned this stop.

Tomorrow we move to Admiral Baker RV Park (Navy) in San Diego.  We will be there for 10 days - 20-30 Mar.  The drive tomorrow is not bad.  Around 100 miles through the mountains.  It should be scenic.

Next report - San Diego CA!
