14 Dec 2018 - NSTR!

14 Dec 2018

NSTR! Some will get this! Nothing Significant To Report. Another acronym from my military years.

Friday morning, for something different, we made the pilgrimage to a local Waffle House.  During our sweep through the south we had to do it once!
There are no Waffles House restaurants in Iowa that I am aware.  Missouri is about the closets to us.   From their web site, " ....2,100 locations in 25 states in the United States. Most of the locations are in the South and Midwest, where the chain is a regional cultural icon."  The first one opened in Georgia in 1955, the year Doreen and I were born.  We each had a waffle and shared a couple sides.  Well, I am good for the rest of the day now...!

On the way back to the FamCamp we stopped at the commissary and BX to resupply.  We did not need much, but Doreen had planned a beef roast dinner in the Instant Pot and we needed a few things to go with that.  (It was awesome.  The Instant Pot is a perfect fit in the RV.)

It rained most of the day, sometimes pretty heavy.  We stayed put the rest of the day.  Doreen did a load of laundry which is right outside our door.

This weekend we will start the planning phase of our next journey. What the heck?  We just started this trip!  True dat, but to get out in front of reservations during the peak of the tourist season, we need to get this process started, like now.  We are very proud of our son Dan who will graduate from the Executive Fire Officer program at the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, MD towards the end of June 2019.
We will get home (Ankeny IA) from this current trip approximately 3 May 2019.  So we will have a little over a month to regroup, recover, repair, then head back out in June so as to be in Emmetsburg MD for Dan's graduation.  We will then tour the areas of the United States we have yet to visit, or have the majority of the State yet to visit:

It will not be the best time to visit this part of the United States from what we understand, with the heat and humidity, but it seems foolish to make the drive out there and not visit these states.  We will focus quite a bit of time in the Washington DC area and then work our way south down the coast.

It looks like the weather will clear today and remain clear for the next week with highs in the upper 50's to lower 60's and lows in the 30's-40's. No rain in the forecast.

Doreen has been fighting a cold the past few days.  Not as nasty as mine (she says I am a wus!) but still a distraction for her.  Looks like we both have to pay our dues with the crud, but hopefully this will be the end of it for this trip.  Nothing worse than being on vacation and being sick.

Plans for today (Saturday) include heading back downtown Montgomery and touring the inside of the Capital building and then watching the Iowa vs Drake basketball game later.

It totally makes sense to start your trip next year around Dan’s graduation. Doesn’t leave much time to take a break after this long one!!

Glad you could have a down day or two with your colds.

Shell, no the "recovery" time will be short for sure. I hope we don't need an major repairs as there will not be time!

Dan, yes a down day once in a while is not a bad thing. Also allows us to keep up on maintenance, laundry, etc
