10 Dec 2018 - Water Leak

10 Dec 2018
Spent quite a bit of time last night researching sites to see here in Montgomery and the surrounding area. There are many sites in downtown Montgomery which is pretty close to Maxwell AFB.  We can catch many of them within walking distance once we drive downtown.  We have plenty of time, so we will do these as weather permits.

There is a Hyundai automobile manufacturing plant just south of Montgomery and they offer tours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays three times a day for 90 minutes each, so we hopped on their web site last night.  Looked like all spots were booked other than Friday at noon, so we jumped on that!  Finalized the reservation and printed off the documentation!  All set.... almost!  I just noticed the reservation was for Friday 15 Feb 2019!  That was the first open time they had, darn it!  Oh well.  There is also a Kia plant located just inside the Alabama/Georgia border but they apparently don't do tours.

Weather continues to be lousy.  Is not quite as cold as it was further north but still cold for the area.  Low last night was 41 F and the high today was 44 F with drizzle most of today.  In the next few days, the lows are dropping to 32 F but highs going up a bit to 61 F on Friday.  With the warmer temps comes rain.  Well, at least it is not frozen precip!

Even though it was overcast and drizzly today I did snap a few pictures of the campsite.
Nice paved spots with paved patio.  The driveway portion where the truck is parked is gravel.

Few trees in this area so satellite is no problem!

Restroom/shower building next to us with laundry and ice machine too.  Very handy!
They say RV's experience an equivalent of an earthquake going down the road, mile after mile.  Poor roads, potholes, etc put a lot of physical stresses on the frame and all the structures.  It's no wonder we end up with squeaks, loose screws..... AND WATER LEAKS!  We've had several instances of PEX clamps as well as the worm gear hose clamps loosening.  So I went out to walk the dog this morning and there was a suspicious puddle under the RV.  We've had a lot of rain and drizzle, but my suspicions were confirmed as soon as I opened the 'basement' area.
Puddle under the RV

Water in the 'basement' area
To access the water piping I have to completely unload the basement and remove both the side panel and the end panel shown above.  Once exposed, I cleaned up the water from the floor and dried the piping and hoses until I found the leak(s), three this time.  In this case it was worm gear clamps rather than the PEX giving me problems.

I tightened all the clamps, at least I thought I had them all, and then went inside to warm up and have some lunch.  I came back out to reassemble everything and found another small leak.  So I think I have them all now.  I gave it a couple hours and no signs of leaks.  Hopefully this will take care of it.  I hope my 'field repairs' will hold until Next summer when we get home.   I plan to re-do many of the connections then.  If not, I will re-work the connections in a campground down the road.  Ugh!  It is always something!  I am glad I have the tools to be able to fix this stuff, otherwise we would spend more time in RV repair shops than camping!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) we plan to head to Gunter AFB so I can find my brick and then explore the area a bit more.
