17 Dec 2018 - Goodbye Montgomery AL - Hello Pensacola FL

17 Dec 2018
We bugged out of the Maxwell AFB FamCamp about 1035 hrs this morning and headed south.

The trip to Pensacola FL was uneventful, a pretty easy 178 mile drive that took us about 3 hrs 48 minutes.  We stopped once just north of the Florida border to stretch and pee the dog.
Sunny and warming.  Beautiful blue skies today!

We did not have any issues finding the Blue Angel Naval Recreation Area RV Park but it is definitely off the beaten path.

After checking in we found out we indeed had "reservations" but not by site number.  It is 'first come first served', so there was some anticipation as we departed the check-in office and drove to the campground.  No worries though.  We got a hold of the camp host, a friendly guy named John.  We hopped on his golf cart and drove around to pick the best of the vacant spots. We were pleased there was a pull-through open with adequate length and a view of the southern sky (Directv-friendly!).  Score!  After returning to the RV, John led the way and we quickly were parked in our site and quickly set-up the rig.

They have  two different RV areas here.  Anchor Cove has 83 dirt/grass sites and Battleship Row, the one we are in has 75 concrete sites. Both campgrounds are right on the water with attached beach area, miles of walking trails, disc golf park, and other amenities.
The roads are blacktopped and there are nice grassy areas surrounding each site - dog loves this!  They are all full hook-up with 50 amp electric, water and sewer connections.  There is no cable TV or WiFi here, but we bring our own anyway.
Wide paved camp spots

We are here until 2 Jan 2019 when we move to Keesler Air Force Base Biloxi MS, where I went to Air Force electronics school Jul-Dec 1973.  While here in Pensacola we plan on relaxing, taking in the sights, eating our weight in seafood and having a good time.  This will be bitter-sweet however as we are separated from our family for the Holidays. Last time that happened was when I was deployed to Iraq 2006-2007.  We will improvise, adapt and overcome leveraging electronics!

One last picture.  We were greeted at our new camp site by this young feller!  They grow 'em big down south!
