After changing plans, and looking at the weather forecast for Nashville we are very glad we did. Some of the Interstate highways mentioned in this article are those we would have traveled:

So we packed up this morning, dumped the ice from the hoses, and about 0921 hrs headed southbound. It was really a beautiful drive from Memphis through Mississippi and into Alabama. The sun shined brightly even though it was not all that warm out - 40's most of the day. We listened to President Bush's funeral service on satellite radio as we traveled. We arrived at Perham AL, just south of Birmingham about 1425 hrs and quickly set up. 274 miles today. More than we like to average. This is a really nice campground with a lot of shade, not that we need it right now!

Our campsite. The Pinnacle looks nose-high here, but it is actually very level. Optical delusion! |
As soon as we were set up, I headed down the road to an exit where there were two RV dealers in search of a heater water hose. Holy schmackeral! Camping World wanted $135 and the other dealership wanted $109 for a 12 ft hose. Um, no thanks. I will take my chances.
That's it for today. Our list of to-do's for the next few days includes: Talladega Motor Speedway, Radio Museum, Rickwood Field (oldest baseball park in the US), Peanut roasting company, Barber Vintage Motor Sports Park, Birmingham's Hidden Firefighting Museum, Mining Museum. Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. If anyone has been here before and has recommendations, give a shout out in the comments or FB.
