20 Dec 2018 - Rain and National Naval Aviation Museum #1

20 Dec 2018
After updating the blog this morning we walked the dog a bit and looked around the campground at the water.
Our site surrounded by water

Our sewer connection completely submerged

We then headed out, in the rain, towards the National Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola Naval Air Station.  With the nasty weather our plan was to work the inside of the museum today and then the outside displays on a better day.  Actually the outside displays are viewed from a trolley so we can do that today.
We arrived and bought our tickets for the trolley tour at 1300 hrs  and actually we bought our tickets for the Magic of Flight IMAX movie which started moments after our arrival.
We barely saw anything inside the museum today except the movie.
This was a fantastic movie that focused on the history of flight and then went into detail on the Blue Angels aerial demonstration team.

The movie ended and we made our way to the trolley tour.  This is a narrated tour of various naval aircraft on the ramp behind the museum.  We rallied under the F-14 Tomcat in front of the museum, and our tour guide met us there, then we made our way to the trolley.

Our trolley bus
Our tour guide was a retired career Naval aviator, so he was able to provide insight and first-hand experience on the aircraft.  He drove the trolley and narrated as he went. These are not restored aircraft, so some were in rough condition, but very educational and interesting. Here are several pictures from the trolley.  I did not have a window seat, so the limited number of photos I got are mediocre at best.

A trainer on the runway about to take off.

After the museum we headed for Joe Patti seafood restaurant for a late lunch / early supper.  Joe Patti operates a restaurant and also a seafood store where you can buy a wide variety of fresh seafood.
Restaurant
The food at the restaurant was really good and plenty of it.  Doreen had chicken tenders and I had fried oysters.  Both came with baked beans, coleslaw and  hush puppies.  In addition, you get your choice of cheese grits which I had or french fries which Doreen chose.  I was looking forward to boiled shrimp and raw oysters, but not here...  Oh well, I will find it elsewhere.
Seafood store
After lunch we headed over to the Joe Patti Seafood store.  I got distracted and did not take pictures but inside it is huge and people were lined up buying seafood for their Christmas dinners.  Any kind of seafood you can think of and they have it there at a reasonable price.

We headed back to the RV park and relaxed the rest of the evening.  It is obvious we will spend hours inside the museum so our plan is to go back tomorrow and tour the inside portion of the museum and then make our way to the Fort Barrancas and then to the military cemetery.  Temps will feed like the 30's tonight, low of 44F and tomorrow highs of 49 and windy. Rain stopping at 0500 hrs tomorrow morning.   Warmer days are ahead!
