If we did not learn anything else during my 42+ years of military service, it is you need to be flexible. Stuff happens and you need to "improvise, adapt and overcome", as Clint Eastwood would say! On the road we stay informed on what the weather is doing and what is forecast. This is especially important this time of year. RV water systems can freeze up due to the cold, and you can find yourself stuck in a locations you had not planned due to ice and snow.
The original plan had us leaving tomorrow (Wednesday) and moving to Nashville for four nights, then on to the Knoxville area for four nights, and then to Georgia for three nights to see an Air Force buddy. Due to some serious winter weather moving in we decided to change our travel plans, play it safe(er) and head south. Original plan on the left and revised plan on the right.
The revised plan now has us heading to Birmingham AL 5-9 Dec (tomorrow) and then to Montgomery AL 9-17 Dec followed by Pensacola 17 Dec-2 Jan. After that everything remains unchanged.
So we did not get to see the Peabody Hotel duck march, nor did we see the Cotton Museum. We also did not get to see the Civil Rights Museum as it is closed on Tuesdays and we did not visit the Bass Pro Shop that looks like the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. All of these are a good excuse to come back this way, not that we need an excuse!
I did squeeze in some maintenance today and Doreen did two loads of laundry. The ice machine water level sensor quit again. It gets gunked up with lime accumulation from the water and in a perfect world I would make some CLR ice cubes and that would probably take care of it. Instead today I just gave the pump/sensor a few taps with a screwdriver handle and it came alive. I was also cleared hot by the campground staff to give the RV a bath to wash off the road salt from our trip down from Iowa. Most parks don't allow washing vehicles, but I've found if you ask politely and offer to reimburse them for the water (they never accept money), sometimes they will say OK. Today was that day.
Temps dropping to the upper 20's here tonight. Two ceramic tower heaters going inside with a fan blowing air in the reverse direction into the furnace and into the space behind the water control panel. Toasty warm in here now. I think we will be OK.
So we will pack it up tomorrow morning, say goodbye to Memphis and head on down to Birmingham AL via a short traverse of Mississippi.
So that is about it for tonight.
