7 Dec 2018 - Alabama Crud...

7 Dec 2018
Had the best intentions today of seeing the remainder of the local sites on out list, but I pulled the plug on my tourism today and stayed put in the RV.  Some where along the line I manged to catch the crud - upper respiratory infection.  Started out with a scratchy throat and evolved into sinus drainage, severe sore throat, cough, and overall crappy feeling.  Wonderful.  I usually get one of these a year, so I guess it is my time.  Better now than later.  I was using over-the-counter stuff like Muscinex, etc but I could tell I was not getting a handle on it, so this afternoon I visited a nearby Urgent Care facility.  Super nice doc quickly diagnosed the upper respiratory infection and dismissed influenza, etc.  So after three shots in the butt (one antibiotic and two steroid) and a trip to the local Walgreens for several follow-on prescriptions (antibiotic, Z-pak, cough syrup and steroid), we will hopefully be on the mend soon.  As I write this (10pm) I can tell the injections have made a difference.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is our last day here then Sunday morning we head on down the road to Montgomery AL.  The weather continues to be lousy and no improvement in sight - heavy rain and cold temps - at least no ice/snow and no sub-freezing temps.
So tomorrow we will also stay put and hopefully the meds will continue to kick the Alabama Crud's butt!

On a good note, Doreen made some awesome enchilada soup today which really hit the spot.  She also used her Instant Pot and cooked up some chicken thighs.  Food definitely has not been an issue.  She cooked a bunch of pork loins in the Instant Pot back in Ankeny before we left and mixed with barbecue sauce and froze baggies of meat.  So it is really easy to thaw a bag and have some fantastic pulled pork sandwiches.

We did venture out this morning to restock a few items at the local Walmart and I refueled at a nearby gas station.  We found diesel for $2.669 which is the least expensive we have found yet on this trip.
I was disappointed in the fuel mileage on the first two legs of the trip - Ankeny to St Louis and St Louis to Memphis.  The RAM was in the high 9's MPG which is out of character for her.  Same load within reason.  But looking at the weather we had an obvious nasty headwind.  The Memphis to Birmingham leg took us up above 10 MPG.  Normally, unless there is a headwind, tailwind, mountains or some other factor, it will average 11 or more towing.  So hopefully the mileage will get back up in the 11's and the price will continue to drop.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
