We got under way this morning about 0900 hrs and headed to Security Police to get my handgun which had to be stored in the armory while we were staying at the Naval Air Station. Within a few minutes we were escorted to the main gate and on our way south to Mercedes TX and the Llano Grande Lake Park Resort where my sister and her husband live. The drive was uneventful and there was not a lot to see as we headed down the divided four lane. The sun shined brightly which was very welcome! The temp warmed as the morning went on as well. There was not a cloud in the sky! Yeah!
We arrived at the RV Park at 1310 hrs after driving a short 172 miles. Karen and Jim met us at the office on their golf carts and we were quickly checked in. They led us to our RV site and I backed in the beast like I had done it before LOL.
As you can see from the map, this place is HUGE! 1200 sites total!! Karen and Jim were nice enough to leave one of their golf carts with us to use while we are camping here. They headed back on Jim's cart and we finished getting set up. After our late lunch we hopped on the cart and headed over to their house.
Karen and Jim have a beautiful 'park model' trailer that they have added on to. They also own two other sites here plus they have their own fifth wheel they use to 'go camping' when they are not staying here. We will get more pictures tomorrow. They gave us the tour of their trailer and then Jim, Doreen and I took off on a golf cart for a tour of the park. Jim explained which areas are 'owned' and which areas are 'leased'. Other areas (RV sites) are rented out to campers like us. There are some residences that appear to be 'double-wide' manufactured homes. Others like theirs are 'park model' trailers. There are many that are simply RV's like ours, both Class A motor homes as well as fifth wheels. The entire park is manicured. Staff is everywhere cleaning up, picking up, mowing the grass, servicing the utilities, etc. There are multiple swimming pools, fitness rooms, events buildings, outdoor recreation areas, outdoor events areas, doggie parks, wood working shop, sewing / quilting area, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, an 18-hole golf course, a restaurant and more! The roads and sites are all paved and in great shape. A few pictures Doreen took while on the back of the golf cart
Knowing we were coming to Karen's, I ordered some stuff from Amazon and other places and most of it showed up, so we hauled the boxes back with us. Also, in conversation Jim and I were talking about the salt spray, corrosion, etc and I mentioned something about how badly my RV needs to be waxed. Jim mentioned he had a guy down here that will wash and buff wax the entire RV at a reasonable price, so Jim called him and we made arrangements for 0800 hrs tomorrow morning! Outstanding!
Some of the items I ordered need to be installed, so I can be working on that while the crew is washing and waxing the outside.
Karen and Jim's 50th wedding anniversary celebration is Friday evening and we will help them get set up for that. The event starts in the afternoon with a reception, then we will be going out to eat followed by a dance with a band! While we are here, they are planning to take us to one of their local authentic Mexican restaurants and we are looking forward to that! As time permits Doreen and I will drive down to South Padre Island, likely next week after the weekend. We have pretty good weather forecast for the next few days which is GREAT!
More pictures tomorrow!
