12 Feb 2019 - Preparing to Depart Corpus Christi

12 Feb 2019
Focus for today not unlike other pre-departure days - preparing to depart Corpus Christi in the morning.  Tomorrow morning we will leave here and head south to Mercedes TX, where my sister and her husband live, and the primary destination for this trip.  Karen and Jim are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend and we are excited to be able to attend.  They live in a huge RV resort called Llano Grande and they found us a site so we will be able to camp right there in the resort.
Just a few RV's here in Llano Grande!
Mercedes is about as far south in Texas as you can go - almost!  We will take in the sites down there including South Padre Island!  We will be there a week and then head up to San Antonio, San Angelo, and points west!

So, Doreen focused on the inside of our RV today and I focused on the outside.  I cleaned and stowed the barbecue grill; scrubbed and stowed the tire covers and they really needed it!

In between working we had a couple nice walks today since we had some intermittent sunshine!  Yeah!
Forecast is pretty good for the next couple days with temps in the 70's and no rain.
Shown with no filter elements installed in the containers.
I also changed out both water filter elements. Campground water is very unpredictable.  The water in military campgrounds is for the most part pretty reliable. Commercial campgrounds, Federal and State parks, etc are a crap shoot - some good and some nasty.  Our RV came with a single element water filter system, but you had to tear the whole basement area apart to change it, plus the housing was not clear so you could not see what the element looks like.  I abandoned it and installed a two filter system accessible from the water panel as shown above, and I used clear housings. Our system brings the water first through a particulate filter element, which removes larger particles before the water passes through a second filter which is a carbon filter element. It reduces chlorine, bad taste and odor, rust, sediment, ammonia and volatile organic chemicals (VOCs).  The carbon filters are good for about 6000 gallons, but it also depends on the quality of the water we experience.  Anyway, it seemed like a logical time to change them out!

Later, Doreen helped me wash the truck, since it appears our rain is gone for a while!

That's about it for today.  We hope to be on the road about 0900 hrs tomorrow morning for a 3-4 hour trip tomorrow including stops.  Next report, Mercedes TX!
