9 Apr 2019 - Arrived at Amarillo, Stats Update

9 Apr 2019
We blasted out of the Albuquerque NM KOA this morning at 0854 hrs eastbound on I-40 towards Texas.  Today's route is pretty flat, actually we lose 1443 ft as we head east,  and the I-40 route is fairly straight.  Like much of this portion of our trip, it either parallels the historic Route 66, or the Interstate replaced it in places.

As mentioned, the scenery was nondescript - lots of flat with some mesas along the way.

The further east we traveled the greener it got.  Trees began to show up and even green grass was visible.

We stopped once for fuel at a Loves Travel Stop in Tucumcari NM.  In the parking lot was this awesome old RV, or bus converted into an RV.

Not much further east we reached the New Mexico / Texas State Line.

About 22 miles into Texas we stopped at Adrian TX to visit the Route 66 Midpoint landmark.  It was just north of I-40 on the original Route 66.
We pulled into the Sunflower Station which is an old gas station converted into an antique and souvenir shop.  It was closed so there was no problem parking our rig there.  The Sunflower Station is right next to the Midpoint Cafe which is a 50's style cafe and souvenir shop.

Straight out from the Midpoint Cafe is the actual 'midpoint'!  1139 miles to Chicago and 1139 miles to Los Angeles on Route 66.  It is marked by a white line across Route 66 and a landmark on the north side of the road.

Also, next to the Midpoint Cafe is the Fabulous 40's Motel.  It appears to be closed, like many along Route 66.
Doreen crossed Route 66 with Liberty for the picture above, then she went into the cafe and fetched us some chocolate pie with ice cream for a treat.  We sat outside at the Sunflower Station and enjoyed a little break.

Back on the road again and it was not long before we reached Amarillo TX and our next stop, the Oasis RV Resort. We arrived at 1510 hrs local (Central Daylight Time) and 272 miles.  Yes, we had a time zone change on the border.  Back on Central time - Yeah!

This RV park is not a KOA but it is a Good Sams Resort and it is very nice.  Paved sites with blacktop entrances and exits.  Pool, spa, all the amenities. Wide spacing between sites too.
Nice sites

Wide streets to maneuver the rigs

Lots of space between sites

It's been a long day, so Liberty crashed behind my chair!
The Oasis RV Park is on the western outskirts of town, and just a stones throw from the famous 'Cadillac Ranch'.  We will visit there tomorrow and take some pictures.  So, to temper your expectations, the Cadillac Ranch is nothing like the 'Mustang Ranch' brothel east of Reno NV.  Just sayin'.  :-)

One other thing this RV park has is a buried RV!  This might give you a hint what to expect at the Cadillac Ranch!

We got set up quickly, ate a quick dinner and then headed for the spa to soak the aching back a while.  It did help a bit, but like a couple days ago, does not help the sharp, shooting pains, just relaxes the muscles a bit.
