We rented a car to use during our travels around Los Angeles and so Enterprise came today and 'picked me up'. The office is just a few miles from here so it was convenient and will be when we turn it back in next Friday.
My back is trying to pull an April Fools joke on me I think, but it is no joke. I have no idea what I did to aggravate it, but I am experiencing severe lower back pain and the 'electric shocks' radiating down the back of both legs similar to what Doreen had, only hers extended to her right foot and included burning and numbness. I don't have that, but my mobility today was terrible. I have an appointment with Doreen's pain management doctor a couple days after we return to Iowa, but there is a lot of traveling between now and then. If it does not improve, the rest of this trip is going to suck, bottom line. Luckily it does not occur when I sit, so driving is not an issue, and it does not occur when I lay down, so I am sleeping pretty well. When I stand and especially when I walk, it can take your breath away. So, attending the two balls games tomorrow and Sunday, touring the USS Iowa, Queen Mary, etc etc should be really interesting. The medication prescribed at the Urgent Care back in Las Cruces is doing nothing. On the way back from the rental car place I stopped into CVS and picked up some of those adhesive back pads that contain lidocaine. They are supposed to help with nerve pain but I did not detect any relief. Oh well, it is what it is. So much for my April Fools....
Today we visited a couple of the local beaches. The first one was nearest to the city of Long Beach called Belmont Beach. It extends from the San Gabriel River all the way along East Ocean Blvd. It may change names in there somewhere, but it is a big, long beach! These are pictures of the south end near the river:

We then drove north and found free on-street parking adjacent to the beach. Shoes off, we walked across the beach to the Pacific Ocean. Walking through the sand just about did me in.

Zoomed in on Island White, a small island off shore a bit. |

Doreen zoomed in on the distant Long Beach Harbor Lighthouse, which is inaccessible from shore. |

Doreen picked up a few shells for her collection |
After leaving Belmont Beach we drove back to Seal Beach past the Marina Shipyard.
We then drove down through the 'old town' Seal Beach to their beach, also called Seal Beach. As this is Spring Break, there was not a parking spot anywhere, so we just did a 'drive-by'.

Seal Beach Municipal Pier |
Not much of a view of Seal Beach on the pictures, but it is a very nice beach. The Municipal Pier extends out from the center of the beach. The Seal Beach Police Department building is right on the beach, right of the flag pole, above. We turned south on Ocean Drive and ended up on Seal Beach Blvd which goes right past the entrance to the Naval Weapon Station and our RV Park.
We spent the evening grilling steaks and watching the Chicago Cubs getting waxed by the Atlanta Braves 8-0 in an ugly game where they committed six errors. For the Cubs and for me, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.
Tomorrow we attend the Giants vs Dodgers game at Dodger Stadium.
