3 Apr 2019 - Made it to Needles CA

3 Apr 2019
We departed Seal Beach this morning at 0856 hrs heading for Needles CA.  Our friend Rick Nicklaus gave us the preferred route since it was a work day in L.A., and the route was great.  There was some traffic, but by waiting until 0900 hrs to depart, and following his route, we avoided the worst of it.

On the west side of the mountains everything was green and flowers were blooming.   It was clouding and we did receive a bit of rain, but not bad.

We headed up to Barstow CA which was supposed to be our destination when we departed Seal Beach, but today it was just a fuel stop and chance to stretch and pee the dog.  The route up to Barstow turned very dry and 'deserty'!  The desert has it's own beauty, though.  We passed some beautiful cactus and mountainous areas.

At Barstow we caught I-40 and headed eastbound until we arrived in Needles CA. The land between Barstow and Needles is all desert.  Very dry, sandy and little vegetation.

We arrived at Needles at 1409 hrs after driving 268 miles, and quickly found the KOA Campground on the west side of town.

We checked in  and were escorted to our site, which is standard operating procedure for KOA Campgrounds.  Doreen is really picking up my slack with set up tasks etc since my back is so screwed up.  We got the RV set and I started working on the remaining tasks since we have changed plans.  One task was to put the baseball tickets for Sunday's Los Angeles Angels game we won't be using up for sale on Stubhub.  I must have priced them too low since they were sold within 30 minutes of posting!

Doreen took Liberty out on a walk to check out the campground.  No grass here!  Back to peeing on the rocks and sand.  Poor Liberty!
Interesting cactus looks like a foot with toes!

Palm tree stump

No problem with satellite reception out here!

We are staying two nights at each of our stops on the way home.  Since driving does not bother me, we may find a route to drive to see the area tomorrow, and a restaurant to sample the local fare.
